The protest also affected traffic movement.

The residents of Sushant Lok 1 took to streets on Sunday and staged a protest alleging inaction by MCG, GMDA, DHBVN and DTCP. Apparently, they are upset over the unavailability of civic amenities. Consequently, with banners and slogans, the protesters gathered at the Rajpath Marg, formed a human chain and carried out a march till the Millenium City metro station.

The protest also affected traffic movement. Pointing at the poor roads, and the sewage and drainage network, they raised slogans like “Suvidha nahi toh tax nahi” and “Kaam karo yaa kursi chhodo” and said that they would stop paying charges like property tax, electricity and sewage bills until the issues are resolved.

Vishnu Khanna, RWA president of Sushant Lok 1, said, “There are unchecked commercial activities and encroachment in the residential areas, but DTCP has repeatedly failed to take any action despite several complaints. Similarly, the GMDA is not ensuring proper maintenance of greenbelt and fencing to ensure they are not encroached. While the DHBVN has spent crores in smart city, but when there is a little rain, the power supply gets disrupted, which affects the water supply too”.

Deepak Verma, General secretary, RWA said, “If things are not improved, we will stop paying any bills and taxes to the corporation”. Similarly, residents of Sector 40 also protested against the MCG.

Naresh Kumar, MCG joint commissioner, stated, “The colony has infrastructure deficiencies that were supposed to be fixed by the developer. We are taking up the development work in Sushant Lok 1 and other works are in the tendering process or estimate preparation. The infrastructure is old in Sector 40. It takes time and people need to understand that.”
