Green Signal for building group housing colony at Ashok Vihar

SEIAAA has asked the project proponent to retain the sheesham trees falling on the boundary wall.

In a recent development, the Delhi State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAAA) has given environment clearance for the construction of a group housing colony at Ashok Vihar in northwest Delhi. Of the 1,961 trees at the site, 100 will be transplanted on the premises, 662 will be transplanted off-site, 996 will be pruned and 203 will be retained.

SEIAAA has asked the project proponent to retain the sheesham trees falling on the boundary wall. As per the environmental clearance, the land parcel, which belongs to Rail Land Development Authority, has been given to an agency for the development of a group housing colony under a lease agreement.

Although the project initially got an environment clearance in 2021, the project proponent later claimed that there was a clerical error in counting the trees and applied for an amendment to the environment clearance for the same.
