DDA has informed National Green Tribunal that it has taken measures to curb dust pollution in Vasant Kunj's E block.
Previously, RWA of the area had approached the tribunal over dust pollution and dumping of waste at night. In a report submitted to NGT on November 20, DDA stated it had paved a 380-metre stretch in the area. While 330-metre-stretch has been paved with bituminous concrete, the remaining 50 metres with cement concrete, it added.
The stretch was completely unpaved and causing dust to go up in the air. C&D waste dumped in parts of E block has also been removed. The agency has further claimed to be conducting regular water sprinkling.
Based on a letter petition received from the RWAs in January last year, NGT in October this year had asked DDA to file an action taken report and to find a sustainable solution to the increasing dust pollution in the areas surrounding E-1 and E-2 in Vasant Kunj. NGT had also asked DDA to remove any debris, construction waste and municipal solid waste along the roads.
DDA, in its report, stated that it had floated a tender on October 19, but no bid was received and this was auto-renewed and opened again on November 10. It had identified another unpaved road at the end of this road, but that did not come under its jurisdiction. "However, as a temporary measure, sprinklers are running on the said stretch under guidelines of the Graded Response Action Plan," quoted DDA.
