The Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has cancelled the licence granted to Mahira homes, an affordable housing project in Sector 68. It was in the year 2017, when the licence for the affordable group housing colony was granted to Mahira Infratech Pvt Ltd (formerly known as Sai Aaina Farms Pvt Ltd).
The cancellation of licence has left more than 1500 homebuyers in the lurch. A point worth mentioning here is that majority of home buyers have already paid 100% of the amount to the developer and were awaiting possession.
The licence cancellation comes after complaints of “forged and fabricated bank guarantees”. The department started receiving complaints of violations regarding the licensed land, forged bank guarantees, forged signatures on the collaboration agreement and other documents submitted at the time of grant of licence. Several other discrepancies were also found in the paperwork.
The DTCP has sent a letter to the HRERA and have urged the authority to freeze the account of the company and cancel the registration of the project with immediate effect. To safeguard the interest of the allottees, the department will take over the project and ensure its completion.
Based on an interim order, construction was stopped in 2020. Since third party rights had been created, it was decided to cancel the licence and take over the project.
Although, the DTCP plans to complete the project, but many homebuyers have raised their concerns about how the licence was granted to the developer in the first place when fake documents were submitted.
