On 17th July, 2018, two buildings collapsed in Shahberi killing nine people. Once the probe was initiated, it was found that there were no layout approvals from the GNIDA for building’s construction. Since this incident, the authority has tightened the screws on the encroachers.
Recently, during an anti-encroachment drive by the GNIDA, eight shops and four illegal flats in the same Shahberi area were razed.
It was informed by Prabhat Shankar, Manager of Work Circle I in the Project Department of Greater Noida Authority that during an inspection it was found that few encroachers were doing illegal construction in the area. On being questioned, the owner gave unsatisfactory statements. So, the authority deputed an official in plainclothes at the spot to monitor the illegal construction.
The authorities took three hours to raze the shops and flats illegally built on the land. The construction was going on despite a stay order from the court, informed authorities.
The order was executed with the help of local police under the leadership of Prabhat Shankar, Manager of Work Circle I in the Project Department of Greater Noida Authority.
