M3M Promoter challenges ED notice

The court had also denied any interim relief to Bansal.

12 , November , 2023

In a major development, Roop Bansal, managing director and promoter of M3M has moved to the special PMLA court of Haryana seeking an anticipatory bail in the case registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, which involves former CBI judge, Sudhir Parmar. This move comes after getting bail in the PMLA case linked to Ireo.

Post hearing arguments from the defense counsel and senior prosecutors of the ED, special PMLA judge Rajeev Goyal fixed November 17 as the next date of hearing for orders on the bail application.

Meanwhile, the court had also denied any interim relief to Bansal saying that the process initiated by the ED in serving notice had no apprehension of arrest.

Previously, the enforcement directorate (ED), which is probing the case, sought production warrants for Roop Bansal who was lodged in Ambala jail. The production warrants became infructuous as Roop Bansal walked out of jail after being granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana high court. Sources said that the senior counsel appearing on behalf of Bansal pleaded for interim relief in favour of the applicant, staying his arrest till the next date of hearing by contending that the ED sought to arrest the applicant in a false case.

The defense counsel contended that while Bansal was in custody, ED had moved an application for permission to record the statement of the applicant under Section 50 of the PMLA in connection with the case on the premises of Central Jail, Ambala.

Basis same, permission was granted, and the ED asked 92 questions from Bansal. The court fixed the next hearing for November 17.
